Here is the environmental alphabet of the students from Mazzarino

The smaller students at IC Mazzarino have made up the environmental alphabet to have their say on climate change. The alphabet was exposed in the final peaceful march of the Climate action week. The project carried out by the school, directed by principal Alessia Guccione and coordinated by Rosalia Marotta, saw the health, environment and safety commission made up of teachers Gaetana di Marco, Paolo Cino, Tina Pistone, Annamaria Cammilleri, Valeria Ianni and Cristoforo Passaro. The keywords adopted by the students are balance and sustainability.

All children wanted to be there to have their say on such an important day for environmental issues. They listened carefully to the speeches of mayor Vincenzo Marino with commissioners Elena Corinto and Franco Lo Forte, as well as the school vice-principal Concetta Marino.

Romania: a country of contrasts. Liemers College students are introduced to Romanian culture.

In the week of May 6, three Romanian students came to the Netherlands, in Bergen op Zoom. This time it was the turn of ten Dutch people to travel. From Liemers College: Luca, Floor, Kyra and the teachers Joost Voorhuijzen and Suzanne Sassen. Together they enjoyed Romania from 5 to 14 October, through an exchange of the Erasmus+ project.


International environmental challenge for students of the IC Mazzarino

The environmental challenge continues at the comprehensive school of Mazzarino in partnership with other European schools. The Erasmus plus project will end in 2020 after a three-year activity that sees the school groups from Romania, Holland, Estonia and Spain together with the Mazzarinese school.

Twelve students from RSG 't Rijks in Bergen op Zoom, together with five other schools from all over Europe, are carrying out research into sustainability and ecology. Within the school they are known as the Eco-club.

Students of IC Mazzarino have been in The Netherlands to talk about environmental problems. The trip, as part of the three-year Erasmus project, involved the Mazzarinese delegation composed of the teachers Antonella Capizzi, Anna Di Natale and Tania Agnello together with the students Andrea Bognanni, Giorgia Mangione and Chiara Trubbia. School director Giovanna Ambrosiano has congratulated the team, since the children had the opportunity to tackle current issues of great importance for the planet.


Young Andalusians Building Europe

21 students from IES Sabinar, Year 4, worked on a school project about the EU. They were chosen by the European Information Network of Andalusia in the XIII Edition of the JACE School Award (Jóvenes Andaluces Construyendo Europe, i.e. Young Andalusians Building Europe) to represent the province of Almeria, on March 26 and 27 in Torremolinos, Málaga. Although they were not finally the winners of Andalusia, they did learn a lot about Europe and the other schools that took part in the contest.

Two students from IES Sabinar have been granted a Beca Amancio Ortega, an important scholarship for Spanish Year-4-ESO students to study Bachillerato in the US. One of them, Natalia Martínez, talks about how useful it was for her to be able to participate in her Erasmus+ exchange in Estonia last year. Liemers College, together with other schools from Estonia, Spain, Italy and Romania, is participating in the Erasmus+ project Environmental Awareness Across Europe. Koen Putman, Indy Slagmeulen and Tiba Vermaeten from VWO-3 were allowed to visit Estonia from 14 to 20 April with their teachers Luc Depré and Louis Blumer. During the week before the school break, Jüri Gymnasium had a lot of excitement, because the town had attracted young people from the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Romania.

In the next years 2017 to 2020, Jüri Gymnasium will be participating in the international Erasmus+ inter-school cooperation project, which is called Environmental Awareness Across Europe. Students and teachers will participate in project activities within the programme, which are mainly related to five areas: recycling and waste sorting, electricity and water consumption, local products, local transport and nature protected areas.

Istituto Comprensivo Mazzarino has welcome the European delegations of the Erasmus+ project "Environmental Awareness Acrosss Europe", from 6th to 12th October. Near 30 students along with their teachers, have enjoyed a whole week while discovering Sicilian ecological practices and the beauty of the atmosphere, the history and art of Palermo, Monreale, Agrigento and Piazza Armerina. The participants have also developed workshops at the school about sustainability, and they have visited a photo-volcaic station and Monte Gricuzzo, as well as a day in the open air in Rafforosso.
